There’s a cool story likely to be missed leading up to USC’s opener at Virginia. When the Trojans set foot on the field at Scott Stadium, walk-on freshman tailback Chris Fornataro will be with them. This kid won’t decide the game. Joe McKnight and Stafon Johnson and CJ Gable will get almost all of the carries, but he will probably get a touch or two….especially if the Trojans get a big lead.
Fornataro played high school ball at Mills Godwin High School in Richmond, Virginia. He ran for 1,400 yards and 17 touchdowns as a senior last year. He walked on at USC, had a great Fall Camp and gave a huge effort as the service team tailback. He didn't expect to make the travel team, but Coach Carroll recognized his hard work by giving him a ticket to Charlottesville.
If he gets into the game, it will be a huge deal with his family and some of his high school friends at the game. He played his high school ball just 65 miles away in Richmond. He's no slouch by the way. Above is a link to Fornatoro's high school highlight reel.
So glad he is making the trip -- that is really cool. Hope he gets in the game! It's hard to root for USC as an Irish fan but I will root for this kid to do well. Thanks for the update.
