This time, I say, "No way Jose."

Canseco

Jose Canseco has written another book. It's called VINDICATED, and it's the follow-up to his prophetic bestseller JUICED. He is an angry, vindictive, bitter and cash-hungry guy. Much of what he wrote in his first book was later recounted in The Mitchell Report, but this time around, I think Canseco is lying...or at least exaggerating.

Martin Bashir has interviewed Canseco for tonight's Nightline on ABC, and JA Adande and me spoke to Bashir this afternoon. (Here the interview at this link.) Jose says in the book, and tells this solid reporter, that he introduced Alex Rodriguez to a steroid dealer that he's calling Max.

Now, his name isn't Max. He's just calling him Max. He didn't say that ARod used steroids. He just introduced him to a guy who was supposedly a steroid dealer. Canseco also says in the book that Alex coveted Jose's wife, not that he slept with her.

Canseco says if ARod thinks he's lying, he should sue him. What would he sue him for? Is it possible that Jose introduced Rodriguez to a guy who was in possession of steroids. Sure. It sounds like most of Canseco's associates in those days had some connection to performance enhancing drugs. Is it possible that ARod thought Jose's wife was hot? Also completely possible.

It's clear that Canseco already put all of the serious accusations in his first book, and now he's left with loose associations, slimy insinuations and and uncorroborated accusations. I haven't read the book yet (it comes out April 1), but so far, it doesn't sound like there is any new information. Until I hear otherwise, it seems like Jose Canseco is using his publisher like an ATM machine.
